With Real Madrid eyeing reinforcements in the centre-back department for the summer, Bayern Munich ace Dayot Upamecano has been heavily linked as a possible target.

After all, the 27-year-old defender’s contract with the Bavarian giants stands to expire at the end of the season, making him an attractive target for a free transfer come summer.

A few weeks ago, though, it seemed like the French international was set to agree to a new contract with Bayern, leading to Real Madrid’s interest cooling down.

But, now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Upamecano has finally given his approval to the contract proposal from Bayern Munich.

He is now set to sign a new long-term contract with the Bavarian giants, committing to the club until the summer of 2030.

All of his suitors have been informed about the development, reports Romano.

Upamecano is understood to be happy at the Allianz Arena and Bayern, too, are delighted having been able to secure his renewal after all the efforts made in recent months.

So, the French international’s name is now seemingly off of Real Madrid’s agenda once again as he will sign a new contract at Bayern Munich.

With Marc Guehi signing for Manchester City, Jeremy Jacquet agreeing to join Liverpool in the summer, Upamecano renewing, and the club deciding against a move for Ibrahima Konate, it remains to be seen who Real Madrid go after to strengthen their defence.

Nico Schlotterbeck of Borussia Dortmund has been mentioned as a possible option in some circles, with his contract at Signal Iduna Park expiring in 2027.
