Real Madrid plan on strengthening their centre-back department again next summer despite spending heavily on Dean Huijsen earlier this year.
Both Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba are out of contract at the end of the season and are unlikely to be offered an extension, given their age, injury problems, and high salary.
As such, there will be need for reinforcements in the centre-half position, with Los Blancos already identifying several potential targets – one of whom happens to be Bayern Munich mainstay Dayot Upamecano.
Now, journalist Christian Falk confirms that Real Madrid are indeed interested in signing Dayot Upamecano in the summer of 2026.
The French international’s contract with Bayern Munich expires on 30 June next year, at which point he can be signed for free, and has piqued the interest from the Spanish capital giants.

However, as per the report, Los Blancos are not alone in pursuit of the defender as Premier League giants Manchester United and reigning French and European champions PSG are also keen on signing the player.
Upamecano, 26, has been at Bayern Munich since 2021, and has established himself as an important player, even though he has had his ups and downs.
However, given his contract situation, an exit cannot be ruled out, especially with other top clubs like Real Madrid and PSG lining up to sign him.
The Bavarian giants, though, are intent on holding on to the French international, as was confirmed by director Christoph Freund this week.
“Upa is an outstanding player with a great personality. He knows what he has at FC Bayern. Of course we hope he will stay with us in the long-term. There’s no deadline,” he said.
