The Argentina World Cup winner has largely been brilliant for the Reds since swapping Brighton for Anfield in a £35m deal back in summer 2023.
He has helped the club back to the pinnacle of the English game - becoming a Premier League title-winner in the 2024/25 season.
But the end of the season brought some tough moments for the 26-year-old. It was clear he was struggling for fitness - reduced to a bench role before missing the final two games of the campaign altogether.
The summer did not bring the refresh that Arne Slot would have been hoping for - with the South American sensation failing to enjoy a proper preseason.

And in truth that end-of-season hangover has extended into this term with Mac Allister not yet making it to the 90-minute mark in any of his six Premier League outings.
He is coming under increased pressure for his starting place owing to the signing of Florian Wirtz - with Dominik Szoboszlai now a rival in midfield as well as Curtis Jones.
With a contract expiring in 2028, Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes will have to weigh up carefully whether or not Mac Allister is worth an extension and a pay rise.
Otherwise he may come to the conclusion that the club should cash in on Macca while his value is high. Predictably, Real Madrid will be at the front of the queue for Mac Allister as the 15-time European champions have got a longstanding interest.
Transfer insider Dean Jones has confirmed there’s “genuine” truth in talk of Madrid sniffing around Mac Allister - but also adds that they are right now more likely to choose Enzo Fernandez for their midfield refit.
