TeamTalk reports that Real Madrid could block Sunderland’s attempts to sign Victor Munoz and Thiago Pitarch this summer.
Sunderland are planning for the window after securing Premier League safety with recent wins over Leeds United and rivals Newcastle United. Activity is expected, though not on the scale of last summer’s overhaul.
With a top seven push still alive, focus also remains on finishing strongly and securing only a second European campaign, the first since the 1973 Cup Winners Cup.
Attacking midfielder Pitarch, 18, was said to be open to a move to Wearside, but he has stepped into Real’s senior set-up and is viewed as part of their long-term plans.
Winger Munoz is at Osasuna, yet a buy-back clause from his Bernabeu exit is seen as a hurdle. Real are tracking his progress, and he marked a maiden Spain appearance with a goal in a 3-0 friendly win against Serbia at the weekend.
The report indicates Real are ready to trigger the clause to bring Munoz back this summer. Despite that potential setback, Sunderland are understood to have strong ties with Real and continue to assess other emerging talents.
