In a positive update for Real Madrid, MARCA reports that injured goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is now in the final phase of his recovery and is set to gradually rejoin team training in the coming days.

If there are no setbacks, he is expected to return in time for El Clasico on 10 May at the Camp Nou, with 13 days remaining before Real Madrid visit FC Barcelona.

Making positive progress

Courtois suffered his injury while Real Madrid were still competing for both the league title and the UEFA Champions League.

The Belgian goalkeeper came off at half-time during the UCL Round of 16 second leg against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on 17 March.

He has been out of action for more than a month now, but his recovery has progressed positively without any setbacks or relapses.

In fact, Courtois was even able to do some light on-pitch training today, indicating that things are headed in the right direction.

While a return this weekend against Espanyol will be difficult, everything suggests that the veteran superstar will be back between the posts for the decisive encounter at the Spotify Camp Nou.

How Real Madrid have fared in his absence

Real Madrid have felt Courtois’ absence significantly during the most decisive stretch of the campaign. His injury is considered one of the key factors behind the team’s inability to remain competitive for major trophies.

Without Courtois in goal, the team’s performance has declined. Since his injury, Real Madrid have recorded three defeats, two draws and only two victories in seven matches.

Throughout the season, Courtois had been performing at an exceptional level, showing why he is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world. His consistent match-winning saves helped sustain the team during difficult moments.

In his absence, the side has appeared more vulnerable. As such, the priority now is clear: to have Courtois fully fit and ready for El Clasico.
