Real Madrid and Osasuna go head to head in LaLiga on Tuesday, marking the beginning of the 2025/26 season for both teams.

Xabi Alonso’s side will be eager to start their campaign on a positive note at the Santiago Bernabéu, as they look to bounce back from a disappointing 2024/25 season that saw them finish second to Barcelona and crash out of the Champions League in the quarter-finals.

Real Madrid team news

Real Madrid could hand debuts to several new signings as Xabi Alonso takes charge of his first La Liga match as head coach. The Spanish tactician has made significant additions to strengthen the squad, with Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Alvaro Carreras all joining the club this summer. Huijsen impressed during the Club World Cup, showcasing his qualities following his £50 million transfer from Bournemouth.

Jude Bellingham will be a major absence, as the England midfielder is out until October after undergoing shoulder surgery. Eduardo Camavinga is also sidelined with an ankle sprain, while Federico Valverde is a doubt after missing the final pre-season friendly due to muscle overload.

Dani Carvajal is working his way back to full fitness after suffering an ACL injury last season, having played just 19 minutes during the Club World Cup. The club captain may need time to regain his starting position with Alexander-Arnold now at the club.

Endrick remains unavailable due to a hamstring injury, while Ferland Mendy is also a fitness concern. Rising star Gonzalo García earned a contract extension until 2030 after his impressive showing at the Club World Cup, where he was the tournament’s top scorer with four goals.

Osasuna team news

Los Rojillos will be without forward Iker Benito, who suffered an ankle ligament injury during pre-season and is continuing his recovery. Midfielder Rubén García is a doubt after experiencing discomfort in his right quadriceps during the final training sessions before their last friendly against SC Freiburg.

Sergio Herrera recently signed a contract extension until 2028 and is expected to start between the posts.

New signing Valentin Rosier, who joined from Leganes, adds depth to the defensive options and can play both right-back and centre-back roles.

Osasuna finished with mixed pre-season results. They have been gradually building match fitness. The team ended the 2024/25 La Liga season in eighth place with 52 points, achieving a respectable mid-table finish.
