The board at La Liga giants Real Madrid have already made the call to bid farewell to two members of the club’s defensive ranks next summer.
That’s according to Diario AS, who point towards David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger as the pair in question.
News of the decision not to afford Alaba a new deal should come as little surprise, with the Austrian having long been struggling for form and fitness alike.
The update on Rüdiger, though, is altogether more noteworthy.
Whilst the German did not enjoy his best season in 2024/25, he was heavily hampered by an injury complaint which ultimately forced Rüdiger under the knife.
Prior to as much, the former Chelsea man was widely considered the leader of Real Madrid’s backline.
Dean Huijsen and Éder Militão are now viewed as being ahead of Rüdiger in the pecking order of new Blancos boss Xabi Alonso, though.
Add to this the club’s ongoing search for reinforcements at the back with a view to the 2026/27 season, and the 32-year-old looks set to depart as a free agent alongside defensive partner Alaba.
