Real Madrid working more urgently on winter acquisitions following AC Milan defeat | OneFootball

The start of the 2024-25 season has been poor in general for Real Madrid, but the last few games have put the club in a state of a full-blown crisis. The Merengues find themselves 9 points behind the La Liga leaders FC Barcelona and are standing 17 in the League Phase of the UEFA Champions League, quite distant from the top 8 teams that will directly qualify for the Round of 16.

The Merengues were not at their best at the beginning of the season as well, but Dani Carvajal’s injury has made things even worse for them. The last two defeats to Barcelona and AC Milan have put the team’s problems out in the open for everyone to see.

In such a scenario, the need for winter reinforcements is looking more real than ever. According to MARCA, the club is now also working with more urgency to assess their options in January, especially after the last two defeats.

Before the game against AC Milan, strengthening the right-back position was the top priority of the Merengues. This was especially the case as Militao was unable to convince in this position in training, and the club also does not want to send the youngster Jesus Fortea straight into the fire and want to take a more gradual approach to his development.

The Liverpool fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold remains the favourite candidate of Los Blancos, but while he can be obtained for free in the summer, getting him in January will be very difficult for Real Madrid as Liverpool are not really desperate for cash.

Furthermore, after last night’s defeat, the Vikings are also looking to strengthen the centre-back position, and the RB Leipzig defender Lukeba is the club’s favourite, even though he has recently renewed his contract with the German side.

Replacing Toni Kroos is not priority of the Merengues for the winter, and this issue will be addressed by Real Madrid in the next summer transfer window.
