Real Sociedad delivered a collective performance in the second leg, capped by Mikel Oyarzabal’s penalty, to take them to La Cartuja. A disciplined rearguard underpinned the night.

Marrero looked nervous early on but had little to do, then preserved the clean sheet with a late stop from Vesga. Jon Martín dominated in the air and Zubeldia was equally assured, winning a key sprint and nodding a second-half corner just over. Sergio Gómez contained Iñaki Williams and crossed well, while Aramburu’s passing was erratic and Gorrotxategi broke lines despite the odd rushed touch, as reported by AS.

Turrientes gave Real’s play order, dovetailing with Gorrotxategi before going off on 58 minutes. Guedes repeatedly hurt Athletic in behind and, after hesitating, spurned a big chance before the interval by striking the side netting via a deflection, then departed in stoppage time. Barrenetxea was subdued by Vivian, slipped often and was also withdrawn on 58 minutes.

Soler drew a superb save from Padilla with a free-kick and was replaced on 84 minutes. Oyarzabal read the game superbly, carried the threat and converted the penalty, then left to an ovation in stoppage time.

From the bench, Yangel brought intensity, though he could have measured himself better, and helped when Athletic pushed Real back. Marín worked tirelessly in midfield and won the penalty that Oyarzabal scored. Oskarsson saw little of the ball, Sucic arrived in stoppage time to draw a save from Padilla and Aihen also appeared too late to influence things.
