Maguire: “It was absolutely massive”
Speaking to Sky Sports, Manchester United’s Harry Maguire said: “It was absolutely massive. We knew that the first game, the derby, you’re always up for them and you know that one-off results can happen so we had to back it up today. We spoke about it before the game, coming to the league leaders who have been excellent this year, I must say.
“To come here, to have a setback late on and to go on and get the winner was magnificent.”

“A brilliant second-half performance,” says Roy Keane on Sky Sports.
It’s hard to disagree. Manchester United were exceptional.

FT | Arsenal 2-3 Manchester United
And that’s a wrap. A truly enthralling encounter in North London comes to a close, with Michael Carrick’s Manchester United moving into the top four after a stunning victory at the Emirates Stadium.
Lisandro Martínez’s own goal put Arsenal ahead before the break, though Arsenal let their foot of the gas and Bryan Mbuemo was able to swiftly restore parity.
After the interval, United took the lead through a stunning Patrick Dorgu effort – and just as it looked that Mikel Merino had rescued a point, Matheus Cunha delivered a wonderstrike of his own to see the Red Devils leapfrog Chelsea and Liverpool in the Premier League standings.

Interestingly, Manchester United beat Arsenal 3-2 during Michael Carrick’s last spell as interim boss, back in December 2021.
Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo were on the scoreline for the Red Devils that day, with Emile Smith-Rowe and Martin Ødegaard finding the back of the net for the Gunners.

Amidst the chaos of Matheus Cunha’s strike, Noussair Mazraoui replaced Amad Diallo.

GOAL | Matheus Cunha
THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS.
Matheus Cunha has been on the pitch for just 15 minutes, and he’s delivered! After good work in midfield from Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo, a powerful effort from outside of the box sees the Brazilian put Man United on course for a mammoth three points.
Arsenal’s equaliser lasted all of three minutes.

GOAL | Mikel Merino
WHAT A FINALE!
Mikel Merino looks to be Arsenal’s hero! A Bukayo Saka corner causes chaos on the goal-line, and it’s Mikel Merino who looks to get the decisive touch as he bundles the ball over the line.
Will there be another turn in this game?

Arsenal are understandably growing in desperation, with Mikel Arteta bringing on four subs.
Ben White, Mikel Merino, Viktor Gyökeres and Eberechi Eze take to the pitch, replacing Pedro Hincapié, Martin Ødegaard, Gabriel Jesus and Martin Zubimendi.

GOAL | Patrick Dorgu
That is PHENOMENAL from Patrick Dorgu – and Manchester United take the lead in North London!
An absolutely thunderous strike from the edge of the box rattles the woodwork and crosses the line, with Dorgu’s blushes spared after a brief VAR check cleared him of a handball accusation in the buildup.

If that first half is anything to go by, we’re in for a very intriguing second half in North London.
Arsenal lost all composure after taking the lead, and with Man United now level against the league leaders – and just a week after deservedly seeing off Manchester City – confidence will be high for Michael Carrick’s men.
Whether they can make that confidence count remains to be seen.

HT | Arsenal 1-1 Manchester United
What a first half of football we’ve been treated to.
Arsenal dominated the early stages and found the opener through a Lisandro Martínez own goal, but Man United flooded forwards from that point on and were soon rewarded for their efforts when a loose pass allowed Bryan Mbuemo to slot home the equaliser.

This game looked to be going one way and one way only for the first 20 minutes or so. Now, it’s a much more even contest – as shown by Sofascore’s Attack Momentum chart.
