Reece James has extended his Chelsea contract until 2032 after signing on Friday, the club captain committing to six more seasons.

London-born and academy-trained, he underlined his desire to stay with the club. The club said in a statement that the 26-year-old stressed how much Chelsea means to him, that he has always wanted to spend his best years with the club, and that he believes the squad can build on past successes.

James has collected five major trophies with the Blues, including the Champions League in 2021, plus the Europa Conference League and the Club World Cup last year. He has made more than 200 Chelsea appearances.

Chelsea were beaten 5-2 by Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday in the Champions League last-16 first leg, and sit fifth in the Premier League.

Capped 22 times by England, he is expected to start at right-back for the Three Lions at the World Cup this summer, scheduled for 11 June to 19 July, after overcoming a run of injuries. He has already played 35 club matches in all competitions this season, his highest tally since 2021-22.
