Referee Anderson Daronco wrote in his match report that Abel Ferreira shouted 'Seu cagão!' after being sent off during Palmeiras' 1-0 win at São Paulo in round eight of the Brasileirão at Morumbis.

The head coach had been booked early in the second half. Minutes later he protested strongly over a possible foul on Arias in a Palmeiras counter-attack, receiving a second yellow, then a red.

He departed gesticulating, to loud jeers from São Paulo supporters, and kicked two balls as he left the pitch.

The dismissal means he will not be on the bench against Grêmio on 2 April at 21:30, Brasília time, in round nine.

He was not due to hold a post-match press conference on Saturday, a plan arranged before the game because of a personal commitment.

As part of the staff rotation, it is his turn to visit family in Portugal. He was set to fly to Europe in the early hours of Sunday and is not expected to be with the delegation at the next training session.

It was his third sending-off of the year and his second in the league, the first came against Fluminense. He has 14 dismissals since taking charge in 2020.
