Chelsea teenager Reggie Walsh made history on Wednesday night, stepping onto the pitch in the club’s 5-1 victory over Ajax at Stamford Bridge and becoming the youngest player ever to feature for the Blues in the Champions League.

Walsh, who had turned 17 just last Monday (October 20), replaced Romeo Lavia in the 65th minute. That was enough to surpass Dominic Solanke’s decade-old record and secure Walsh’s place in the club’s record books.

At the same time, he became the second-youngest English player to appear in the Champions League, behind only former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.

This latest milestone is just the most recent in a series of records for Walsh. Last season, he became Chelsea’s youngest-ever player in European competition when he featured against Djurgardens in the Conference League at 16 years and 193 days.

A week later, he became the youngest player to start a European match for the club in the return leg. He also holds the record as Chelsea’s youngest player to feature in the League Cup, having played against Lincoln City at 16 years and 338 days. In addition, Walsh is the third-youngest player in the club’s history, behind Ian Hamilton and Kingsley Whiffen, both of whom debuted in 1967.
