Régis Le Bris says Enzo Le Fée has nailed down a central attacking midfield role after a bright 45-minute outing at York City.
The 26-year-old struck twice and saw a deft chip ruled out for offside. According to Sunderland Echo, his late-season switch into the role underpinned Sunderland’s strong finish and Europa League qualification.
Le Bris added that Le Fée is most effective when centrally placed with freedom in a three-man midfield, and that growing familiarity with the club and team-mates is sharpening his influence.
The head coach has set out a plan to work with around 20 senior players in 2026/27 to cope with a demanding schedule. The Premier League will be the main priority, while Sunderland also aim to embrace their first European campaign in more than 50 years.
So far, Thomas Meunier is the only arrival, joining on a two-year deal. Le Bris said recruitment is ongoing without panic given last summer’s foundations, targeting two or three, maybe four, core additions within a total that will probably be six or seven after 14 last year. He noted the market is slow and that it is better to wait for the right options than rush, adding he is never relaxed.
