According to Sunderland Echo, Régis Le Bris hailed Chris Rigg’s progress, crediting work during a lean spell for his return to Sunderland’s XI and calling it a lesson in patience with a young group.

Rigg’s minutes were sparse in the first half of the Premier League season. He did not make a league appearance between the 3-0 defeat to Brentford in January and the 1-0 win over Leeds in March. Back in the side, he impressed against Brighton, then excelled in the 2-1 victory over Newcastle United a week later.

Senior team-mates showed clear trust against Brighton, communicating closely and feeding him the ball in tight areas. Le Bris viewed that as reward for Rigg’s attitude in training and a reminder that emerging players need time to adapt to Premier League demands.

He stressed that credit is earned on the pitch, not through words. Earlier in the season, Rigg’s composure dipped and turnovers made team-mates wary, at times limiting passes his way. Now the opposite is true, built on resilience and character that reflect Sunderland’s identity.

Rigg felt time out of the side helped him improve. He said the extra time let him work on his game, and he wants to keep his consistency.

He is with England’s U19s, who lost 2-0 to Serbia with Rigg a second-half substitute. They face Spain on Saturday morning, then Croatia on Tuesday afternoon, needing to top the group to reach the European Championships.
