According to Sunderland Echo, Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris says he is encouraged by Nilson Angulo’s adaptation since January and thinks the winger can make a Premier League impact.
The Ecuadorian made a brief debut against Arsenal, then started against Liverpool and Fulham. He impressed off the bench in a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth, before starting in the midweek 1-0 win at Leeds United.
Asked if he had seen enough to suggest Angulo can succeed in England, Le Bris said he thinks so. He stressed the player is young and still adjusting to a new team and level, and that adaptation remains key. He cited Bournemouth as a tough outing, praised the response, and noted starting brings different demands to entering from the bench.
Angulo joined from Anderlecht for around £17.5 million late in the January window and has been eased into plans. Le Bris also highlighted his physical attributes as important in the Premier League.
He is yet to record a goal or assist for Sunderland, but registered six goals and seven assists in 22 Belgian top flight matches earlier this season. He also featured in qualifying rounds for the Europa League and Europa Conference League.
