Sunderland have received a timely suspension boost after their win over Newcastle United, with several key players no longer at risk of two-match bans for bookings this season.
According to Sunderland Echo, FA regulations impose a two-game suspension on any player who reaches 10 yellow cards up to and including their club’s 32nd Premier League fixture. Sunderland have now played 31 league matches, so the 10-booking jeopardy tied to the 32nd game will no longer apply.
The current tally shows Trai Hume on eight yellows, Reinildo Mandava and Noah Sadiki on seven, and Omar Alderete on six. Enzo Le Fée and Granit Xhaka have five, while Brian Brobbey, Habib Diarra and Nordi Mukiele are on four.
It is a significant lift for Régis Le Bris, with Sunderland also set to welcome back several first-team players from injury after the upcoming two-week international break. The Black Cats will be hoping for positive news on Dan Ballard and Robin Roefs, while Reinildo Mandava, Nordi Mukiele and Enzo Le Fee returned to the bench against Newcastle United.
The five-booking cut-off earlier in the season, which carries a one-match ban after 19 games, has already passed. The remaining disciplinary risk is from red cards, which bring suspensions across all domestic competitions.
