Régis Le Bris says he remains hopeful Wilson Isidor can still forge a long-term future at Sunderland despite six months of speculation over a summer exit.

Sunderland Echo reports that the head coach has spoken with the striker, who is unhappy with limited minutes after Brian Brobbey established himself as first-choice over the second half of the campaign.

Isidor’s form has picked up in recent weeks, capped by an excellent cameo at Everton where he scored and helped seal a 3-1 win. Le Bris said it is too early to know what the summer window will bring, but added that Isidor is happy at the club and remains in his long-term plans.

Sunderland’s bench was pivotal in that win and could be again on Sunday as the club bid to book a place in European competition with a win over Chelsea at the Stadium of Light.

Habib Diarra set up Isidor’s goal, and Le Bris was pleased to see an impact after a frustrating few weeks for the club’s record signing. He explained that Diarra’s season included AFCON and injury, a bright start, then a long spell without playing or building connections with team-mates amid strong competition. Le Bris drew parallels with Isidor, praising their mentality off the bench, and said they would see Diarra next season.
