Régis Le Bris signals quiet Sunderland window and says Granit Xhaka stance is 'really clear' | OneFootball

Régis Le Bris says Sunderland are working to strengthen but will keep deals under the radar, speaking after a 4-2 pre-season defeat to Liverpool in Nashville.

According to Sunderland Echo, Thomas Meunier is the only arrival so far, and Le Bris said last week the club want three or four core additions before the end of the window, potentially six or seven in total.

The head coach said work is ongoing. He expects a different window to last year, when Sunderland had to recruit 14 players, and cautioned that they will see what happens.

Le Bris addressed Granit Xhaka’s situation for the first time this summer, calling the topic closed. Chelsea had bid to reunite Xhaka with their new head coach Xabi Alonso, and although he was initially open to the move, the midfielder told Sunderland he would stay.

He added that Xhaka has been really clear about wanting to remain, loves the club and wants to shape its future, praising him as a strong captain and leader. During Switzerland’s run to the World Cup quarter finals, Xhaka said Sunderland felt like home from the outset, that his family were happy, he had chosen to stay, and he was ready to make history with the club.
