Relocated Elland Road mural nears completion as Leeds fan artist returns | OneFootball

Leeds United artist Nicolas Dixon is close to completing the relocated mural at Elland Road that honours the club’s 1972 FA Cup winners, with the piece already visible at the north east corner of the ground.

“As a Leeds United fan painting on the side of Elland Road is as good as it gets,” Nicolas said. He was speaking to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk.

Plans for a new West Stand were approved in January. As part of the wider refurbishment, the original wall is set to become the club’s new security hub, and outward kiosk windows meant the mural had to be moved and repainted.

Commissioned by the Leeds United Supporters Trust in 2022 using portraits by Paul Trevillion to mark 50 years since the FA Cup win, the artwork features Don Revie, Les Cocker and several iconic players.

“I had to reconfigure the players and totally redesign it as the kiosk was right on Don Revie’s head,” he explained.

Dixon has teased a few surprises and plans to add the finishing touches this weekend, with the mural already on show to passers-by.

Work continues at Elland Road, with the next home game a pre-season friendly against RB Leipzig on August 8. The redevelopment aims to lift capacity by over 15,000, from 37,645 to 53,000.
