Álex Remiro is in outstanding form, his decisive penalty save at Mendizorroza sealed Real Sociedad's passage to the Copa del Rey semi-finals.
The Cascante-born keeper has extended a strong run, frustrating Barcelona and delivering a solid display against Celta de Vigo. It follows a poor start that led to Sergio Francisco's dismissal.
His resurgence has coincided with Pellegrino Matarazzo taking charge, and Real are unbeaten in 2026. He is also cooling debate around Joan García, Barcelona's goalkeeper, for one of Spain's three World Cup places, a discussion likely to continue until Luis de la Fuente names his final list. Beyond saves, he is valued as a quiet leader and link for club and country.
"The national team goalkeeping position has a lot of quality. Having several names in top form is positive for the team to be close to winning the World Cup," he told El Larguero.
"Everyone needs to understand their role in what is a family," he said. "Those who are called up must contribute whether they start or not, because all roles are important."
