According to Globo.com, Renato Gaúcho has centred his early work at Vasco on valuing the existing squad after a debut win over Palmeiras, aiming to rebuild confidence and recover sidelined options.
He acted on that in his first game, giving Adson, David and Hugo Moura fresh chances after reduced roles this year. David and Hugo Moura started ahead of Brenner, Spinelli and Cauan Barros, and Tchê Tchê returned to the starting line-up.
Adson moved ahead of Marino Hinestroza on the right and impressed in midweek. His inclusion added creativity to an attacking unit short on options.
The approach is designed to lift belief, which the coach views as the first step to escaping an uncomfortable spot in the Brasileirão. He has prioritised players with domestic experience and better fitness, so Brenner and Marino Hinestroza were not used in his opener.
He is aware of the difficulty of recruiting in the domestic window until the end of March. He stressed he has not requested reinforcements, adding they could look to bring in a player in the mid-year window and, if possible, even now.
Vasco face Cruzeiro on Sunday at 20:30, with Hugo Moura, Tchê Tchê and David again in the starting line-up. The game is important as they seek points to move further from the lower end of the table.
