Rennes head coach Habib Beye has reiterated on Thursday his wish to rely on France U21 international centre-back Jérémy Jacquet (20) until the end of the season. The highly-rated Rennes centre-back is a priority target for Chelsea FC, who have previously entered into talks with the Bretons. But barring any change of hearts from the Ligue 1 side’s executives – and a colossal €70m transfer bid – Jérémy Jacquet is expected to stick in Brittany.
Ouest-France adds that Chelsea are aware of Rennes’ valuation of Jacquet, who is expected to return to Beye’s line-up on Saturday when Brittany rivals Lorient turn up at Rennes’ Roazhon Park. The Rennes head coach said in his pre-game presser that he was impressed by Jacquet’s composed handling of the situation. “He’s laser-focused on what he’s experiencing right now.”
The former Senegal international full-back added that, because he leads a highly-ambitious Rennes side, he wants to field the strongest team possible and retain the best players. “Jérémy is one of those players.” Although Beye admitted that he’s not in charge of the transfer market and that he won’t have the final say due to Ligue 1’s economic reality. “There are still a few days left in the transfer window; anything can happen. We need things to be as calm as possible.“
