Almost one week into the start of the pre-season, FC Barcelona are putting in the hard yards to get ready for their Asia summer tour, where they will play friendlies in Japan and South Korea.

Hansi Flick has called up several young talents from the youth and reserve ranks to train with the senior team and is closely monitoring them before making a call on who will be on the flight to Asia.

Dro one of the major surprises

Now, according to Gerard Romero on Jijantes, teenage prodigy Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez has been the ‘big surprise’ of Barcelona’s pre-season camp so far.

The 17-year-old attacking midfielder has been at La Masia since 2022 and was a part of the Juvenil A team that won the treble last season under Juliano Belletti.

Dro had been called up to train with the first team by Flick towards the end of the 2024/25 season, and having been involved again in pre-season now, the youngster seems to have made a big impression.

Indeed, as per the update, Dro has surprised Flick and his coaching staff as well as his Barcelona teammates in training sessions so far.

Along with Jofre Torrents and Jan Virgili, he is seen as one of the standout young talents in pre-season so far.

Even though he is a central attacking midfielder by trade, Flick has been using him on the left wing in training, and the teenage prodigy has managed to win over the coaches.

As such, it would be safe to assume that Dro will be on the flight to Asia later this month when Flick cuts the squad strength from 36 to 26 for the pre-season tour.
