Arsenal Transfer News: Reijnders Interest Adds Intrigue to Summer Plans

Arsenal’s summer planning appears to have taken an intriguing turn, with TeamTalk reporting that Manchester City midfielder Tijjani Reijnders is on the club’s long list of targets.

The Netherlands international only joined City from AC Milan last June in a £46.5 million deal, yet his future is already uncertain. TeamTalk state that City “would consider offers in the region of £45 million”, effectively allowing them to recover their original outlay.

For Arsenal, the attraction is obvious. Reijnders offers technical security, mobility and tactical flexibility, qualities Mikel Arteta values in a midfield that must cope with Premier League and Champions League demands.

TeamTalk report that Juventus have made Reijnders a priority, with the Italian club said to be “fascinated” by the midfielder. That Serie A pull could matter, given his successful spell at AC Milan.

Arsenal’s interest, however, feels logical. TeamTalk note that “a move to bring him to Emirates Stadium is not advanced yet”, but also add that it “cannot be ruled out this summer”.

Why Reijnders Could Suit Arteta

Reijnders has still produced 15 goal involvements this season, despite slipping down City’s pecking order. He has also made 18 Premier League starts and six more in the Champions League, so this is not a fringe player without pedigree.

His ability to carry possession, connect phases of play and operate across midfield zones would appeal to Arsenal, particularly if Arteta wants more rotation without lowering technical standards.

City’s own plans may shape this story. TeamTalk claim they want Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson and that a deal “potentially in excess of £100m” is already well down the line.

If City need funds and space, Reijnders becomes a plausible exit. Arsenal will know that signing directly from a title rival is rarely simple, but they will also know opportunities can appear quickly in a crowded market.
