Manchester United appear to have received one of the biggest pieces of positive news ahead of the new season, with TalkSport reporting that Bruno Fernandes intends to remain at Old Trafford despite continued interest from Saudi Arabia.
Questions surrounding the Portugal international have persisted for months, particularly after approaches from Al Hilal, Al Nassr and Al Ittihad. Yet the latest indication is that Fernandes has reached his own conclusion.
Although no formal discussions took place before the World Cup, TalkSport understands the midfielder has already informed teammates and those close to him that he plans to stay at Manchester United for at least another year.

That decision provides welcome stability for a club continuing to reshape its squad while seeking a return to the Premier League’s highest level.
Fernandes has never hidden the fact that serious offers existed.
Al Hilal came particularly close to convincing him before the Club World Cup, although the midfielder ultimately concluded that remaining in Manchester represented both the strongest football decision and the best choice for his family.
Saudi clubs have not abandoned their pursuit. Al Nassr continue to admire Fernandes, while reports also suggest Portugal manager Roberto Martinez is in discussions regarding their managerial position following the World Cup.
Even so, TalkSport reports that Fernandes is expected to continue leading Manchester United.
His previous comments also illustrated how uncertain matters had become.

Fernandes told Canal 11: “The club wanted me to leave. I told the directors that, I think they didn’t have the courage to make that decision because the manager wanted me.
“But if I said I wanted to leave, even with the manager wanting me to stay, the club would let me.”
Those remarks offered an unusually candid glimpse into the complexity of elite football decision making.
Manchester United’s internal position now appears much clearer.
According to TalkSport, former manager Ruben Amorim played an important part in persuading Fernandes to continue his career at Old Trafford. Michael Carrick also wants the club captain to remain, while senior figures reportedly continue to regard him as central to their long term plans.
That confidence is supported by exceptional production on the pitch.
Since arriving from Sporting in 2019, Fernandes has made 327 appearances and scored 107 goals. Last season he registered 21 Premier League assists, establishing a new competition record for a single campaign ahead of Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne.

He has also carried that influence onto the international stage, registering an assist for Cristiano Ronaldo during Portugal’s 5-0 World Cup victory over Uzbekistan.
For Manchester United, retaining one of Europe’s most productive midfielders may prove every bit as significant as any new signing completed this summer.
Bruno Fernandes has remained one of United’s most reliable performers through difficult seasons, consistently producing goals, assists and leadership when others have struggled.
Supporters understand why Saudi clubs continue to pursue him. Players with his creativity and experience are difficult to replace, regardless of transfer budget. Allowing him to leave now would create an enormous gap in both quality and personality.
The reported desire to remain at Old Trafford also sends an encouraging message. It suggests Fernandes still believes Manchester United can compete for major honours and wants to be part of that journey rather than seeking an easier option elsewhere.
Fans will also appreciate the backing reportedly shown by Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick. Stability around experienced leaders remains vital while the squad continues to evolve.
There is still work to do across several areas of the pitch, but keeping Fernandes gives Manchester United a foundation on which to build. New signings may improve the team, yet retaining elite performers can often be just as valuable. If this report proves accurate, many supporters will view it as one of the club’s best pieces of business this summer.
