Chelsea Set Marc Guiu Price Tag as Xabi Alonso Reshapes Blues Attack

Chelsea have put a £25m valuation on Marc Guiu as the club weigh up a possible summer departure for the young striker, with BBC Sport reporting that his future is increasingly uncertain amid major changes in attack.

The 20-year-old arrived from Barcelona in 2024 for about £5m and has long been regarded internally as a high-upside prospect. There have been encouraging signs in his Chelsea appearances, with eight goals and two assists across 29 matches, yet the underlying issue is opportunity. Guiu has struggled for meaningful Premier League minutes, managing only 336 league minutes across the past two seasons, and that lack of exposure has made his next step a live discussion inside the market.

Chelsea’s thinking appears to be shaped by broader squad planning under Xabi Alonso. The club are pressing ahead with a significant attacking refresh, with Morgan Rogers close to joining in a £117m deal, while Joao Pedro and Emanuel Emegha are also expected to have important roles. At the same time, Nicolas Jackson continues to attract attention over a potential exit.

Marc Guiu Future Hinges on Market Response

Against that backdrop, Chelsea are understood to believe Guiu’s age, pedigree and scope for development support the £25m asking price. The benchmark is said to be Brighton’s purchase of teenage striker Charalampos Kostoulas for just under £30m, a deal viewed as relevant when assessing the market for emerging forwards.

Whether another club meets that figure remains to be seen. Chelsea are also open to a loan if no permanent bid reaches their valuation, and that may yet become the most practical outcome. With three years left on his contract, there is no immediate pressure to force a sale, which gives the club room to choose a route that protects value while prioritising development.

Chelsea Transfer Plans Stretch Beyond Guiu

There is a wider pattern here. Chelsea are trimming certain areas, strengthening others and trying to create a cleaner pathway for the right young players. Shumaira Mheuka is expected to sign a new deal before heading out on loan, underlining that the club are not closing the door on youth, but they are becoming more selective about where minutes can realistically be found.

Our View

From a relaxed Chelsea supporter perspective, this feels sensible enough. Guiu clearly has talent, and calling him “fantastic” fits with what we have seen in flashes, but it has also been obvious that he needs proper minutes somewhere. Sitting around as fourth or fifth choice does nothing for him, and it does nothing for Chelsea either.

If the club genuinely believe £25m is achievable, then fair play. That is strong business on a player signed for about £5m, especially when he has not had a sustained run in the Premier League. If that fee does not arrive, a smart loan would probably be the better option than forcing a sale too early.

The bigger point is that Chelsea’s forward line is changing quickly. If Rogers comes in, and if Joao Pedro and Emegha are going to be heavily involved, then the pathway narrows even more. Supporters can be frustrated when young players leave before fully breaking through, but sometimes timing matters as much as talent.

There should still be some patience here. Guiu may yet become a very good striker, whether at Stamford Bridge or elsewhere. For now, this looks like a practical squad decision rather than a dramatic one, and Chelsea probably need a few more of those this summer.
