Report: Chelsea’s true feelings on Romeo Lavia revealed amid constant injury issues | OneFootball

Chelsea are still big fans of Romeo Lavia despite his ongoing injury issues since joining from Southampton in 2023.

Lavia joined the Blues in a deal worth £58m, but despite now being in his third season at the club, he’s made just 23 appearances in all competitions.

The midfielder played just 30 minutes of football in his debut season, and although last season was better he still managed only 22 appearances.

Chelsea stance on Romeo Lavia emerges

Lavia hasn’t featured for the Blues since their Club World Cup last 16 clash with Benfica in the summer, and this has been yet another lengthy injury absence.

Chelsea have been boosted by Lavia returning to training, but he’s still yet to make a match-day squad so far this season.

With Dario Essugo set to miss around 12 weeks, Chelsea could desperately do with Lavia returning as soon as possible to give them another option in midfield.

Chelsea have been linked with Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton, but according to TBR Football the Blues still fully believe in Lavia, and he’s still highly rated by the club.

However, the report adds January could be interesting if Lavia is fit but not playing for Chelsea on a regular basis.

It’s a World Cup year so game time is naturally important, but first and foremost Lavia has got to focus on staying fit for an extended period of time.

Midfield Chelsea’s strongest part of the squad

Despite the quality on show, midfield is arguably the strongest part of Chelsea’s squad, and they boast the likes of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

Andrey Santos returned from Strasbourg in the summer, and has looked impressive in his appearances so far, whilst Essugo arrived from Sporting Lisbon to provide cover for Caicedo.

Lavia is an important part of the midfield and has shown his quality when he’s played, and when he’s back fit again will absolutely get opportunities, but there’s serious competition and he needs to make the most of his chances.
