Colwill hasn’t featured this season after suffering an ACL injury before the start of the campaign, and Chelsea have suffered in his absence.
The Blues have struggled from a defensive standpoint for the majority of the season, and the decision not to replace him was clearly the wrong one.
Colwill is said to have been progressing well with his recovery, and there have been positive signs as he’s been seen in first team training.
Chelsea reportedly still hope Colwill will play this season, but with seven games to go that looks less likely, and it’s vital they don’t rush him back.
Despite being back in training Liam Rosenior insisted Colwill was still a long way off full fitness, and The Sun have reported the Blues plan to give him a run out in the under-21s before his return to the first team.
The reports adds Colwill could make his return in the fixture against Fulham on April 10th, which would be his first game since the Club World Cup final last summer.
Colwill is seen as a key part of the Chelsea project, and it’s been reported he could be one of the next players to be offered a contract extension.
With Colwill edging closer to a return, the Blues are still believed to be in the market for a centre back having missed out on Jeremy Jacquet in January.
The Blues have decisions to make over Tosin Adarabioyo and Trevoh Chalobah, who’ll both have two years left on their deals at the end of the season.

There are also doubts over the future of Benoit Badiashile, and it’ll be interesting to see what decisions Chelsea take, as the centre back department will likely look very different come next season.
