Inter Milan are reportedly keen to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka in the summer transfer window to facilitate a new game plan.
According to Tuttosport via FCInter1908, the German’s potential arrival would allow Cristian Chivu to change Inter’s formation in 2026/27.
Chivu was eager to deviate from Simone Inzaghi’s trademark 3-5-2 setup upon arrival last summer.
However, after the club’s failed pursuit of Ademola Lookman, the 45-year-old has decided to stick with his predecessor’s established routine.
Nevertheless, he remains hellbent on putting his own stamp on the Nerazzurri squad.
To achieve that, he needs suitable signings, and Leon Goretzka perfectly fits the bill.
Chivu believes that Inter would be far more fluid with Goretzka pulling the strings in the middle of the park.
Known for his versatility and tactical intelligence, the 31-year-old can cover multiple roles in midfield.
Indeed, he can operate as a deep-lying playmaker, a position currently occupied by Hakan Calhanoglu.
However, he is equally well-versed in playing in more advanced positions or as a box-to-box midfielder.
As such, Inter will try to beat stiff competition for the German’s signature in the summer.
Several top clubs, including AC Milan, Napoli, and Arsenal have also set their sights on the former Schalke man.
