As Liverpool prepare for life without one of their generational talents in Trent Alexander-Arnold, the club seems to have zeroed in on Jeremie Frimpong as the future of their right-hand side. According to TeamTalk, the Bayer Leverkusen wing-back is now on the verge of a move to Anfield in a transfer long in the making.
Richard Hughes, Liverpool’s sporting director, appears to have struck gold early in his tenure. Having initiated contact in February, Hughes anticipated Trent’s potential departure and swiftly identified Frimpong, whose attacking prowess from deep mirrors much of what Alexander-Arnold brought during his peak seasons.
Frimpong, who has impressed under Xabi Alonso in Leverkusen’s title-winning side, brings pace, directness, and versatility — qualities Liverpool sorely missed whenever Trent was unavailable.
With a €40 million (£33.6m) release clause in place, Liverpool have chosen to move decisively. By activating the clause, they avoid drawn-out negotiations and competition from other major suitors including Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.
While the Spanish giants were rumoured to be interested, Frimpong himself has consistently made his intentions known. “His dream is to play in the Premier League,” one source told TeamTalk, and Liverpool are offering just that, along with a five-year deal running until 2030.

The former Celtic man is said to be pushing for the move’s completion, a sign of personal conviction and readiness. In return, Liverpool are backing him to evolve into the next dynamic engine down their right side.
A moment of intrigue emerged when Frimpong’s agent, Jeffrey Lemmert, shared an Instagram story captioned “We working” along with emojis and a backdrop believed to be in northwest England.
While not official confirmation, it’s another breadcrumb in a trail leading straight to Merseyside. The post has only heightened anticipation among fans who see Frimpong not just as a replacement for Trent, but as a different weapon altogether — someone perhaps more direct and orthodox in his wing play.
Frimpong’s attributes make him an ideal candidate for England’s top flight. His tireless energy, overlapping runs, and ability to stretch play suit Liverpool’s tactical evolution under Arne Slot.
Add to that his ability to play both as a traditional right-back and as a right winger in a three-man system, and Liverpool have landed someone who could adapt to whatever stylistic shifts emerge in the coming seasons.
“Everything points towards Frimpong becoming a Liverpool player in the not-so-distant future. His speed, attacking style, and energy make him a perfect fit for the Premier League.”
From a Liverpool fan’s perspective, this transfer just feels right. While no one can truly replace Trent Alexander-Arnold — whose blend of vision, passing and ingenuity reshaped full-back expectations — Frimpong offers a completely different but equally exciting profile. There’s no pretence of like-for-like; this is evolution, not imitation.
His energy is infectious. He’s the kind of player you can imagine roaring up and down the touchline at Anfield, feeding off the crowd, and launching into quick one-twos with Dominik Szoboszlai or Mo Salah. And let’s not forget his defensive discipline has improved dramatically under Xabi Alonso.
The move also signals intent from Richard Hughes. Getting this deal done early, with little drama and at a reasonable release clause, shows that the new-look Liverpool hierarchy aren’t waiting around. They’re acting, planning, and pivoting in real time. That’s the sort of decisiveness fans have long craved at the club.
Frimpong might not arrive with Trent’s Hollywood passing range, but he brings purpose, drive and potential. If nurtured correctly, he could become one of the Premier League’s standout wide threats.
