Mamadou Sangare has become one of the more intriguing names attached to Liverpool’s summer planning, with FootMercato credited for the latest information around RC Lens’ valuation of the midfielder.
The 23-year-old Mali international has enjoyed a breakout campaign in Ligue 1, making 32 league appearances, scoring three goals and adding four assists. That alone explains why Liverpool would be watching. What makes Sangare more interesting is the profile. He is energetic, aggressive without the ball, progressive with it and already trusted in a side that finished second in France.
FootMercato report that Lens want around €50 million for Sangare, a huge rise from the roughly €8 million they paid Rapid Wien last year.
That price reflects performance, potential and contract strength. Sangare is tied down until 2030, meaning Lens have little pressure to sell. For Liverpool, that turns interest into a judgement call. Is he a priority signing, or simply one name on a broader midfield list?
With multiple Premier League clubs reportedly interested, Liverpool may not have the luxury of waiting. Lens know they hold a prized asset. Sangare’s price is set, his contract is long and his reputation is rising.
Liverpool’s admiration now has to become action, or it risks becoming another transfer window footnote.
From a Liverpool fan’s perspective, Sangare feels like exactly the kind of link that deserves attention, even if €50 million sounds steep at first glance.
He is young, physically sharp and already performing in a competitive league. That ticks plenty of boxes. Liverpool have often found value in players before they become obvious Premier League names, and Sangare might sit in that category now. Wait another year, with Champions League exposure at Lens, and the price could climb again.
Still, supporters will want clarity. Is Sangare the midfielder Liverpool truly need, or another versatile option in a crowded shortlist? The squad needs more than industry. It needs control, creativity and players who raise the technical level when matches become tight.
At €50 million, Liverpool cannot afford a half measure. If the club believe Sangare can become a long-term midfield pillar, then this is the sort of move that should be pursued decisively. If he is merely admired, Lens’ valuation may quickly push the deal beyond sensible territory.
Either way, this is one to watch closely.
