Liverpool transfer news as deadline day interest grows around Keyrol Figueroa

Liverpool enter the final hours of the January window with a sense of urgency building behind the scenes. With Arne Slot guiding the club through another demanding season following his Premier League triumph in 2024/25, attention has now turned firmly towards transfer news, particularly involving the club’s academy prospects.

Senior squad activity has been minimal. A proposed move that would have seen Andy Robertson join Tottenham Hotspur was explored but has now fallen away, leaving Liverpool unlikely to make any significant first team changes before the deadline. Instead, the focus has shifted towards youth players who could be sold in order to protect their long term value.

One name that keeps resurfacing is Keyrol Figueroa, a forward who has caught the eye across several leagues with his goalscoring record at youth level.

FC Porto and others step up enquiries

According to Honduran outlet La Prensa, FC Porto are among the clubs that have formally expressed interest in Figueroa. The Portuguese side are understood to be exploring a deal ahead of the striker’s contract expiry in June, knowing this could be their last chance to secure him for a reduced fee.

They are not alone. MLS sides New York Red Bulls and Charlotte FC have also approached Liverpool, while Spanish outfit Elche have made contact in an attempt to assess whether a swift agreement can be struck before the window closes.

Figueroa is believed to favour remaining in Europe if possible, which places Porto and Elche in a potentially stronger position, although the financial muscle of MLS clubs cannot be dismissed. For Liverpool, this presents a clear opportunity to cash in now rather than risk losing a promising asset for nothing in the summer.

Liverpool seeking protection in any transfer

Liverpool’s recruitment staff are well aware that Figueroa’s route to the senior squad at Anfield is blocked. With elite attacking options already in place, the young striker has little chance of breaking through in the short term, despite his obvious talent.

That reality has pushed Liverpool towards a sale, but not without safeguards. The intention is to include clauses that allow the club to benefit if Figueroa flourishes elsewhere, either through a sell on percentage or a buy back option.

The original report suggests this is very much Liverpool’s stance. “Liverpool want something for such a talented player who’s on his way out.” That quote underlines the club’s determination to secure value, even as the clock ticks down towards the deadline.

From a Transfer news perspective, this is a classic example of a big club managing its development pipeline while keeping one eye on the future.

Deadline day race to secure Keyrol Figueroa

With multiple clubs involved, the next 24 hours could be decisive. Liverpool know that interest from Porto, MLS sides and Elche creates leverage, but they also understand that time is short.

For FC Porto in particular, this is a chance to invest in a striker with upside at a relatively low cost. For Liverpool, it is about balancing immediate financial return with long term potential.

Whatever happens, Figueroa’s situation highlights how busy deadline day can be, even when first team signings are unlikely. Transfer news around young talents often moves quickly, and this deal could yet be finalised at the last moment.

As Liverpool look to push on in the second half of the campaign, clarity on Figueroa’s future will arrive soon, one way or another.
