Liverpool’s summer rebuild was supposed to be decisive. Instead, it may yet become complicated. According to a report by TeamTalk, one of last summer’s quieter arrivals is already “regretting” his move to Anfield.
Giorgi Mamardashvili arrived for €30 million after a commanding Euro 2024 with Georgia. The expectation was simple. He would learn, bide his time and eventually inherit the gloves from Alisson. That succession plan now looks less certain.

Liverpool anticipated movement in the goalkeeping department. Instead, Alisson remains defiant. Eight clean sheets in 22 league appearances underline that he is still operating at an elite level. Even at 33, he is not playing like a custodian winding down.

Mamardashvili had a window. Five Premier League appearances during Alisson’s injury spell offered opportunity. He kept one clean sheet. It was enough to show promise, not enough to dislodge trust.
TEAMtalk report that Mamardashvili is “seriously considering” a loan exit and that Liverpool are “aware” of his concerns. That phrasing matters. It suggests empathy rather than impatience.
Arne Slot faces a decision shaped by pragmatism. Liverpool are “committed” to Mamardashvili’s long term future, yet development demands rhythm and minutes. A loan could protect value and confidence.

Context sharpens the dilemma. After heavy investment approaching €500 million, Liverpool sit sixth and risk missing Champions League qualification. Financial recalibration may follow. Saudi Pro League interest in Alisson has surfaced before. If a substantial offer arrives, would Liverpool resist?
Slot’s authority will be tested. Goalkeepers define eras. Replacing one requires conviction. Keeping two ambitious internationals requires management.
Liverpool’s recruitment has often been praised for foresight. This situation will measure it. Mamardashvili was bought for tomorrow. Alisson remains formidable today. Balancing those timelines is never straightforward.
In football, succession rarely unfolds to script. At Anfield, it now demands clarity.
For Liverpool, this feels uncomfortable but not catastrophic. Alisson has earned loyalty through consistency and big game presence. If he is still delivering eight clean sheets in 22 league matches, there is no appetite to usher him aside prematurely.
Yet fans also understand planning. Mamardashvili’s Euro 2024 performances hinted at a keeper capable of commanding his area and starting attacks. Letting frustration fester would be wasteful.
A loan makes sense if minutes are scarce. Liverpool have managed assets smartly before. Supporters will want reassurance that this is strategic patience, not drift.
If Saudi interest in Alisson becomes concrete, debate will intensify. Sentiment runs deep, but so does realism. The club must decide whether stability today outweighs succession tomorrow. Whatever the call, clarity is essential.
