Barcelona are exploring ways to keep Marcus Rashford after Hansi Flick made clear he wants the forward to remain part of his squad, according to Sport.
The report states: “Barça are already working to try to retain Marcus Rashford after Hansi Flick’s request to give continuity to the Englishman in the project.”
Rashford had previously looked unlikely to stay because of the financial package involved, but Barcelona’s search for younger alternatives has not convinced Flick. The German coach is said to be “very happy with Rashford and Lewandowski”, with Rashford viewed as a serious squad option rather than an automatic starter.
A key development is Rashford’s willingness to adapt his salary demands. Sport reports that “the footballer has made it easier to fit his millionaire salary into the Blaugrana salary limit.”
That matters. Barcelona’s financial restrictions remain tight, so Rashford agreeing to a longer contract, spreading payments and forgiving part of his salary gives the club room to work.

Manchester United’s stance remains clear. Sport claims United “does not accept either the reduction of the transfer, or extend his loan as he wants to end his relationship with Rashford definitively.”
The agreed purchase option is €30million, payable over three years. Barcelona want a more favourable structure, but United believe that fee is already below market value.
This now feels less about desire and more about mechanics. Barcelona want Rashford, Rashford appears open to staying, and Flick values him. The obstacle is United’s refusal to soften terms.
Unless Barça find a creative formula, United may push Rashford towards other offers. For now, this is a deal with footballing logic, but financial friction.
For Manchester United supporters, this report will feel deeply frustrating. Marcus Rashford’s career at Old Trafford has drifted into a situation where the club now appear more focused on ending the relationship than restoring the player.
With Michael Carrick currently serving as interim boss after replacing Ruben Amorim in January, United are already in another period of uncertainty. That makes the Rashford situation even more uncomfortable. A homegrown forward, once seen as central to the club’s identity, is now being discussed as a financial asset to be moved on.
Many fans will understand why United want clarity. Rashford’s form has been inconsistent, his wages are significant and the squad needs rebuilding. Yet accepting Barcelona’s pressure for a reduced deal would feel weak. If the €30million option is already considered below market value, United must not cave simply because Barça need flexibility.
Supporters will also wonder why Barcelona can benefit from Rashford’s compromise while United could not. If he is willing to forgive salary and adjust terms to stay in Spain, why did it reach this point at Old Trafford?
