Report: Max Eberl "50-50" to extend Bayern contract

After a somewhat challenging start to the job, Max Eberl has received significant praise for his work as Bayern Munich’s board member for sport, with coach Vincent Kompany and attacking talents Michael Olise and Luis Díaz among the key figures brought in under his leadership.

Despite this, an extension of Eberl’s contract beyond 2027 is far from certain. Sport Bild estimates the chances of the 52-year-old receiving a new deal at around "50-50".

The report states that the supervisory board is frustrated by Eberl’s tendency to involve them too late in decision-making, while also moving faster than they prefer in contract negotiations.

He has also not always achieved the best possible results in transfer negotiations. For example, when he negotiated the sale of Kingsley Coman, Eberl initially agreed on a €25 million fee with Al Nassr, but the supervisory board considered it too low, so CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen stepped in and finalised the deal for €30 million.

The situation is different for Dreesen, whose contract extension beyond 2027 is seen as a mere formality.

Sporting director Christoph Freund also looks set to receive a new deal beyond 2027, as his work is highly valued internally, according to the report.
