Serie A top-four hopefuls Milan have reportedly held talks with the agent of Barcelona superstar Robert Lewandowski to discuss a potential summer move. According to the Italian media via MilanNews, the Rossoneri met the Polish striker’s representative to gather information about his availability.
Widely regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation, Robert Lewandowski is ready to write the final chapter of his illustrious career. Indeed, the 37-year-old’s contract expires in June, with no signs of renewal on the horizon. Therefore, the former Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich star will be available on a Bosman deal.
Meanwhile, Milan are on the lookout for a new center-forward after West Ham United loanee Niclas Fullkrug failed to live up to expectations. A lack of firepower has marred Milan’s season, with the Rossoneri (50) scoring the fewest goals of all current top-six teams in Serie A.
As such, it’s no wonder Massimiliano Allegri is desperate to bolster his attacking options. Furthermore, Milan could part ways with long-serving talisman Rafael Leao amid growing interest from Manchester United. The 26-year-old’s potential exit would only amplify the need for a prolific striker.
Despite entering the autumn of his playing career, Lewandowski remains one of the deadliest strikers in Europe’s top-five leagues. Unfortunately, the numbers have dwindled this season. He has scored ‘just’ 18 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions. Still, signing a player of his quality without spending a dime could be a decent short-term solution for Milan.
However, the Rossoneri may have to beat bitter rivals Juventus to the punch.
