As Ruhr Nachrichten reported this evening, September 11, Carney Chukwuemeka is the latest unfortunate name to grace Borussia Dortmund's growing injury list.

So far, the Englishman, who joined the Bundesliga club permanently from Chelsea in late August for €20million, has been limited to one substitute appearance.

Coach Niko Kovač said at today's press conference that the summer signing is still lacking full fitness but a knee injury is also the reason for his reduced playing minutes.

Ruhr Nachrichten's report also highlights a loose joint in his knee as the reason behind Chukwuemeka's limited availability for the Westphalian giants.

BVB supposedly wanted to complete the signing of the 21-year-old early this summer in order to perform a minor but essential surgery during preseason.

Had he signed earlier, the plan was that after a two-week layoff, Chukwuemeka would have returned to training. However, talks stalled with Chelsea over a desired transfer fee.

Kovač's squad has had to cope with numerous injuries this season with the likes of Niklas Süle and Emre Can sidelined, while Nico Schlotterbeck is making a steady return.

Furthermore, the situation of striker Fábio Silva is causing concern after new signing underwent knee surgery shortly before his transfer without BVB's knowledge.
