Despite there being no evidence of any wrongdoing from FC Barcelona, Real Madrid refuse to let go of the Negreira case.

The Merengues, who have presented themselves as private prosecutors in the court investigation, have been at war with the Blaugrana, especially after the latter decided to sever ties with the Super League project and strengthen their relationship with UEFA and EFC.

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has publicly attacked Barça on more than one occasion.

Former Barcelona president Joan Laporta was also questioned by Real Madrid’s lawyers during his testimony in court, while the capital club also requested access to the Catalans’ financial documents from 2010 to 2018, which was rejected by the judge.

Real Madrid seeking punishment for Barcelona from UEFA

Now, according to Madrid-based journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon, Real Madrid will try to convince UEFA to reopen disciplinary proceedings against Barcelona regarding the Negreira case.

They are certain that UEFA will take very strict measures against the Blaugrana.

As per the update, UEFA can punish Barcelona by banning the registration of its players and excluding it from participating in UEFA competitions for a period ranging from one to ten years, depending on the severity of the violation.

For now, UEFA has suspended disciplinary proceedings in the Barça-Negreira case, but Real Madrid strongly believe that it can change and can lead to sanctions against their arch-rivals.

The report claims that a court ruling would not be needed for UEFA to sanction Barça, and that their acknowledgement of making payments to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira, the former VP of the Referees Technical Committee (CTA), will in itself be very crucial.

It seems like another futile attempt from the Spanish capital club to drag the issue forward and it remains to be seen where it leads.
