Despite having already won the La Liga title, FC Barcelona still have one league game left to play, which they will be playing at San Mames against Athletic Club.
Although this match is not going to have any impact on the Blaugranes’ standing in the league, one factor that will still make this match somewhat special is that they will be facing their former coach, Ernesto Valverde.
Still, one could have expected Hansi Flick to release most of his regular starters ahead of this last game, especially those who will be playing for their national teams in the coming days. This would also have allowed the German coach to give some more youngsters their debuts with the first team.
However, as SPORT has reported, this is not going to be the case for the upcoming game against Athletic Club. The main reason for this is that Barcelona Atletic still have a small chance of avoiding relegation in their upcoming match against Unionistas on the last matchday of the Primera RFEF. Naturally, Flick would not look to weaken the squad that is going to play such a high-stakes match.
Thus, not many reserve team players would get the opportunity to play with the first team. Still, players like Ansu Fati, Pablo Torre, Andreas Christensen, Hector Fort, and Pau Victor, who have not had a lot of minutes this season, are still likely to have minutes against Athletic Club.

Similarly, Flick can also call up some players from the youth academy, as the U-19 team has already won the treble by winning the league, the Youth League, and the Copa del Rey. From Belletti’s team, the German coach can call up some of the most promising up and coming players, like Andres Cuenca, Quim Junyent, Arnau Pradas, and Brian Farinas.
For now, it remains to be seen which of these players will be called up and whether they actually get to play some minutes in this upcoming game.
