Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has reportedly asked for the club to seal the signing of Sporting Lisbon goal machine Viktor Gyokeres this summer.

Amorim only left Sporting to take over at Man Utd a few months ago, but it’s not too surprising to see that he’s eager to raid his former club already.

It’s been a difficult start for Amorim at Old Trafford and it’s clear his side could do with more quality up front.

Marcus Rashford has been shipped out on loan to Aston Villa, while Amorim will surely look to offload Rasmus Hojlund soon after his lack of impact.

Gyokeres could be an ideal replacement, and Fichajes claim the Sweden international is one of United’s top targets for the summer.

Gyokeres has been in unstoppable form this season, contributing a total of 58 goals and assists in all competitions for club and country.

The 26-year-old would be an absolutely enormous upgrade on the likes of Hojlund if he could replicate that kind of form in the Premier League.

That could be a big question mark, however, as Gyokeres doesn’t have much experience at the very highest level in Europe.

Gyokeres has exploded into some world class form for Sporting, while his previous club was Championship side Coventry City, so producing that kind of form in the English top flight would be a very different challenge.

Still, it’s easy to see why Amorim is keen to be reunited with his former player as he continues to shine, with an impressive four goals in his last two games for Sporting at the start of this month.
