Experienced referee Simone Sozza failed to live up to the billing in Monday’s Supercoppa Italiana clash between Inter and AC Milan.

According to Corriere dello Sport via FCInterNews, the 37-year-old made numerous questionable decisions in a breathtaking final.

Lautaro Martinez and Mehdi Taremi catapulted the Nerazzurri to a comfortable-looking 2-0 lead in the first 47 minutes.

However, Milan overhauled the deficit for the second game on the trot.

Indeed, Theo Hernandez, Christian Pulisic, and Tammy Abraham propelled Sergio Conceicao’s team to a 3-2 win.

Though the Rossoneri fared well against the Scudetto holders, Sozza’s decisions undoubtedly affected the outcome.

Sozza’s first mistake came inside the first 15 minutes.

Instead of handing Hakan Calhanoglu a yellow card for a mistimed tackle on Yunus Musah, he waved play on.

Furthermore, he refused to award Inter a clear free kick for Hernandez’s cynical tackle on Denzel Dumfries late in the first half.

But his worst blunder changed the course of the match.

Indeed, Alvaro Morata made a textbook foul on Kristjan Asllani.

Yet, Sozza didn’t blow his whistle, allowing the play to continue before giving Milan a game-changing set-piece.

Hernandez would beat Yann Sommer in that situation and set the groundwork for Milan’s comeback.
