Rest and home comforts: why Palmeiras turned down a European camp

Palmeiras have handed players and staff a break, with a return set for the evening of 21 June. The 50 days will be used to rest, regroup and set objectives.

According to Globo.com, a European base, specifically in Portugal, was considered for friendlies, but the club opted to stay in Brazil after logistics analysis showed it would compromise players' rest. Work will be held at the Academia de Futebol, whose facilities were a key factor during the World Cup pause.

Such a mid-season camp is unusual for Abel Ferreira. The 2022 World Cup ran after domestic competitions, and the 2021 and 2024 Copa América did not pause national leagues. In 2025, while Palmeiras played the Club World Cup with Botafogo, Flamengo and Fluminense, other teams had around a month off.

The plan is to stage two friendlies during the break, with the search for opponents under way and no deals yet.

After the Chapecoense match, the club issued a note outlining the recess. Vitor Roque, recovering from ankle surgery, will remain at the Academia de Futebol, while other players will follow Health and Performance department schedules remotely.

Palmeiras return to action on 22 July, visiting Coritiba in round 19 of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
