Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer could return to action against Atalanta next month at the earliest.
This according to today’s print edition of Rome-based newspaper Corriere dello Sport, via FCInterNews. They report that the 36-year-old won’t be back before then after suffering a thumb injury.
Yesterday Inter Milan goalkeeper Yann Sommer suffered a thumb injury.
The Nerazzurri confirmed that the Swiss had undergone tests with the club’s medical staff. These showed a fracture to his right thumb.
The Corriere report that the injury was due to a shot bouncing off the frame of the goal and hitting Sommer’s thumb during training.
In the meantime, Josep Martinez will get his chance in the starting eleven. Starting with tomorrow’s match against the Spaniard’s former club Genoa.
But Yann Sommer isn’t just going to miss one or two matches for Inter.
The former Bayern Munich shot-stopper will be out for a matter of weeks.

And at this busy juncture of the season that will entail missing out on quite a few matches.
According to the Corriere, Sommer will miss both legs of Inter’s Champions League round of sixteen tie.
However, the Serie A clash with Atalanta on March 16th could represent a viable return date for Sommer.
That would be Inter’s last match before the international break.
