The RFEF’s single disciplinary judge has issued suspensions after the Copa del Rey last 16, with Athletic Club’s Aitor Paredes banned for two matches and Rayo Vallecano’s Isi Palazón and Elche coach Eder Sarabia given one each. As reported by as.com, the decisions follow their dismissals in the round.

Paredes received a direct red in minute 55 against Cultural Leonesa for insulting an assistant referee, calling him a coward. The judge did not consider the player’s spontaneous remorse.

Isi Palazón got one match after a straight red against Alavés for violent conduct during play.

Sarabia was sent off in minute 95 of Betis v Elche after a bottle was thrown from the bench onto the pitch in protest and the culprit could not be identified. Elche submitted video and argued the referee dismissed him within six seconds without waiting to identify the offender, leaving him without defence and breaching the principle of culpability.

The judge said the footage did not undermine the match report and cited the IFAB Laws of the Game 2025/2026, Law 5.3, which allow referees to sanction staff and, if the offender cannot be identified, penalise the head coach in the technical area.

After Betis v Elche, club director general Pedro Schinocca was also given a one month suspension for entering the pitch to protest an assistant’s decision and approaching the referee with an aggressive attitude. Albacete doctor Enríque González received two matches for disrespecting officials in the tie against Real Madrid.
