Ricardinho, the former Benfica and Portugal futsal star, says he is deeply concerned about where the sport is heading, using X to air his criticism.
In a post, he said that during a Spanish Copa del Rey tie all four goalkeepers had featured inside three minutes. He argued that pushing the keeper up the court has stopped being a tactical weapon and become routine, something he hates and cannot understand.
He believes this trend is harming young players and squeezing creativity. In his view, teams no longer need to create 1v1 superiority when the goalkeeper steps up to provide the extra man.
Ricardinho added that even exits under pressure are no longer worked without the keeper, with long diagonal balls used to win set plays near the opposition goal. He warned the game is not attractive or truly being played, saying players are already leaving for the Kings League. He said he knows who is at fault but would not name them.
Ricardinho joined Benfica in 2003 and won five national championships, four Portuguese Cups, five Super Cups and the UEFA Futsal Cup, now the UEFA Futsal Champions League.
