Tottenham Hotspur will lock horns with Newcastle United at St. James’ Park this Wednesday night as they look to secure a victory on the road in the EFL Cup. Spurs managed to earn an impressive 3-0 win over Everton last weekend, which should keep them in good spirits ahead of this game.

Thomas Frank will stick with his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation and is expected to make a lot of changes to his first team for this contest. Richarlison, Mathys Tel and Lucas Bergvall could all play from the start of this game.

Defence

Antonin Kinsky will function in between the sticks for Tottenham as he looks to keep a clean sheet in midweek. Kevin Danso will resume his partnership with Micky van de Ven at the centre of Frank’s defence as they look to keep the Newcastle attackers frustrated throughout the 90 minutes.

Pedro Porro will try to prove his worth as the right-back, while Djed Spence looks to give a good account of himself on the other side as the left-back. Both of them will get the freedom to go forward and join in on the attack at every chance they can get.

Archie Gray will offer cover for the defensive positions on the bench.

Midfield

Lucas Bergvall and Pape Matar Sarr will anchor the midfield for Tottenham as they look to win the 50-50 battles in the middle of the park.

The talented trio of Xavi Simons, Richarlison and Mohammed Kudus will operate just ahead of them as part of Frank’s attack. All three of them need to be at their best if Spurs are to secure a convincing win at St. James’ Park this Wednesday night.

Brennan Johnson, Rodrigo Bentancur and Joao Palhinha will have to be content with a place on the bench as they wait for their chance to make an impact in the second half if required.

Attack

Mathys Tel will lead the charge for the North London club up top. He would be keen on getting his name on the scoresheet in this cup game.

Randal Kolo Muani will be named on the bench and might come on to influence the game in the final quarter if needed.
