Rincón returns to Santos squad and should get chance under Cuca | OneFootball

Tomás Rincón has been recalled to Santos' squad to face Cruzeiro at Mineirão on Sunday 22 at 16:00 in round eight of the Brasileirão, after a month out. He should get opportunities under new head coach Cuca.

According to Diario Do Peixe, the Venezuelan has played only six minutes this season and had not been considered by former coach Vojvoda. In his unveiling, Cuca said he would open up competition for places.

He described a player asking to stay and prove his worth despite being 38, and said he values that spirit, promising opportunities with selection decided on merit.

His only appearance this year came on 25 January, late in a goalless draw with Red Bull Bragantino at Neo Química Arena in the Paulistão. Of nine state games, he played one, was on the bench four and left out four. In the league, of seven so far, he was a substitute three times and omitted four.

He is under contract to the end of the year and the club had considered terminating it. Signed in August 2023, he became a leader and starter in the run-in, staying consistent in Serie B, before losing space after the Argentine arrived.

For Santos he has two goals in 78 games. Born in San Cristobal, he started in 2007 with Zamora and Deportivo Táchira, then played for Hamburg and in Italy for Genoa, Juventus, Torino and Sampdoria. He has represented Venezuela since 2008 and is their most-capped player.
