Juan Román Riquelme has formalised Marcelo Delgado as Boca’s manager, part of a structural reshuffle as the club prepares for a busy 2026 with the Copa Libertadores the priority.
According to LaNumer12.com.ar, the Football Council ceased to exist after Mauricio Serna and Raúl Cascini departed several months ago, leaving Delgado as the only conduit between the board and the squads across all levels.
In the updated structure, Riquelme, the club president, will also serve as Director General of Professional and Amateur Football and as Boca’s AFA representative. Delgado will front transfer negotiations, supported by a group whose identities have not been disclosed.
Riquelme and Delgado must now decide who will coach Boca in 2026. For the moment Claudio Úbeda remains in post, with a contract through mid-year, and is preparing pre-season, which begins on the second of January, with his assistants.
Delgado will also rule on the futures of around 20 players returning from loans and will attempt to complete as many signings as possible from the club’s shortlist.
