Juan Román Riquelme is moving to safeguard Milton Delgado amid European interest, with Boca’s transfer work still ongoing.
According to Sitiboca.com.ar, Napoli have shown interest in the midfielder, putting the vice-president on alert and accelerating plans. Riquelme aims to protect key assets, with Exequiel Zeballos and Delgado only departing via clauses around 20 million dollars.
After Adam Bareiro’s arrival, Riquelme is targeting a right-sided winger or a creative midfielder to sharpen Boca’s attack. He wants a skilful option able to thread passes in the final third without relying entirely on Paredes and Ascacibar.
Lucas Blondel’s likely move appears to be within the domestic league, possibly Huracán. If that transfer happens, Boca would be unable to add further reinforcements unless Agustín Martegani is loaned abroad.
To deter suitors, Riquelme plans to give Delgado more minutes so he settles and becomes a Copa Libertadores option, amid attempts from Benfica, Atlético de Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen and Inter de Miami.
Even so, he is not ruling out negotiating a sale if a convincing offer arrives in the summer 2027 window.
